Climbing Steps: A Competitiveness Course @ IITB

IIT Bombay needs no introduction; it is steadily moving on journey in the third quarter of century having already graduated more than 34,000  students.  Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management (SJMSOM) at IITB has carved a niche for itself in select domains of management research.  It also offers a unique course on competitiveness, a necessity for business growth across levels for economic development.  Committed and energetic students can learn skills, build knowledge and get unique perspectives on competitiveness.  The uniqueness of the course International Competitiveness comes from diverse dimensions: e.g.

  • Experiments where students get opportunities to compete much beyond grades to knowledge competitions & even fun outdoors such as biathlon, where rubber meets the roadRunners

  • Several students attempt to compete in journals and conferences from mini-projects done in the course (a sample basic paper can be downloaded from:   Indianjournals  or SSRN).   Exceptional students can plan to compete in related conferences such as Management of Technology (MoT)  conference PICMET’14 in Japan and  American Society of Competitiveness conference in the USA.
  • Such knowledge-creation artifacts last with them for long and come handy when they decide to return for research, good no. of our exceptional students wish to.
  • Executives from leading industrial houses such as A V Birla, M&M to Tata interacted with students in the course.
  • This rare course is offered by a committed team with rich experiences of competitiveness

Since, it is a high-interaction course, we prefer to work with smaller group.  Keen learners are advised to interact initially, if they wish to minimize disappointment.  This course will become a prerequisite for projects & next level courses that will be offered in 2014.
